Domain Name

A Domain Name is a unique identifier for your website. Simply stated, it is the name between the "www." and ".com" (or extension of your choice, .net, .biz, .info, .org). In the example www.google.com, google is the domain name.  You should select a domain name that is:

  • easy to remember
  • accurately represents what you do or who you are
  • short, striving for a two-name domain that is meaningful to you and your users

Every domain name has a suffix that indicates which top level domain (TLD) it belongs to. The most common and desirable for individuals or businesses is .com. But your website can be anything from a .net, .org, .info, or .biz. The following is a list of common domain name extensions and what they were intended for:

  • .com represents the word "commercial," and is the
.org .com .net graphic most widely used extension in the world.
  • .net represents the word "network," and is primarily
    used by Internet Service Providers.
  • .org represents the word "organization," and
is primarily used by non-profit groups.
  • .biz is used for small business websites.
  • .info is for credible resource websites and signifies
    an "informative" web site.

Hosting Services

You will need a web host provider for your website. A web host provider is a company who rents out web space and bandwidth to those who wish to publish a website. You will be provided an account which will then be used to upload your website.
